September 19, 9:47 p.m.
Caller: Ma’am. This is your son’s friend, and we were on our way out, but they tackled him and he is down on the ground. They have him in handcuffs.
Those words rang over and over in my head that night. Loud and clear. The call that went out instructed other officers in earshot that the suspect is a young black male. He was a suspect. He is my son. Tackled from behind to the ground, handcuffed, silent, and cooperating.
He was not a threat . And, when did it become acceptable to threaten him and degrade him while in custody. Disconnected. Phone Cracked. Not able to call a parent. Not able to tell his mom. It is all happening too fast. What is going on? and, why do you have him sitting in the back of the squad car for more than 20 minutes. 20 minutes too long without parental permission or consent.
No bruises. No scars. No physical evidence, so those officers would say that did their job. Harassment does not have to leave a mark. Profiling does not leave bruising. But, you should never tell a mother that she should be glad that her son came home. This was a case of mistaken identity.
Jeremiah 1:5 (MSG) "Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations - that's what I had in mind for you."
You may not have walked through what my son experienced that night, but you know what it feels like to be accused of something that you did not do, or someone that is told who you should be, but God is the one that set in motion WHOSE you were, and WHO you were designed to be. Don’t allow yourself to be caught up in the lies. Claim your inheritance and KNOW that you are a child of God. You are not the tail, because He is the head. You are not lost, because on the 3rd day He rose with all power in his hands, for He defeated the grave. In the end, YOU win! In the end, YOU WIN! IN THE END, YOU WIN!
Trust Him.
"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak." ~ Isaiah 40:29
